Steps to Take for Planning your NDIS Goals

If approved for NDIS funding, you must have a clear purpose for being part of the NDIS scheme. These goals will help you decide how NDIS funding will help you achieve your goals. Each participant has a different objective depending on the need. You may have multiple plans and need help prioritizing what needs to be done. Having a project manager by your side can help you accomplish this task. Analyzing the participant's strategy can also help. We recommend that the participant have 2-3 short-term and 2-3 medium and long-term goals.

Trusted Support Coordination

Here are some steps you can take when planning your goals.

  • List all the things you want to manage in your daily life.
  • Let go of all those things that may not be possible because of your disability.
  • List your top five goals that you will achieve in the next 12 months and five long-term goals that you plan to accomplish in the next 3-4 years. Make them stand out using different colors.
  • Talk to your family and friends to figure out what goals to prioritize.

Suppose you need help achieving your goals. You can contact NDIS experts or your local coordinator for more information.

Types: short, medium, and long-term goals

  • A short-term goal is one that we can achieve within 12 months.
  • We can achieve the medium-term goal in the next 2-3 years.
  • We can achieve long-term goals in the next 3 years or so.

Why are goals important?

Your goal is an essential part of creating your plan. It helps us to know what is important to us and to prioritize in our life. Objectives can also help determine the following:

  • Your strengths and how to use them.
  • Your motivation to do something different on your own.
  • Ways to measure your progress.

  1. When I started with NDIS, I was a bit lost on setting my goals. Your advice about having 2-3 short-term and 2-3 medium/long-term goals is spot-on. It made the process less daunting and more manageable. For those thinking, "Need help with NDIS application," I'd say having a clear vision of your goals is key. It not only helps in the application but also guides you through the entire NDIS journey.
